My Wedding Veil

After months of debating between different style veils I returned to my original favorite style - the pouf veil for my wedding.  There are as many different style veils as there are personalities.  I wanted something different from the rest.  I wanted it to be sexy, yet sophisticated.  The long veils are a bit overdone and don't work on everyone.  I wanted it to be fun and flirty.  I'm so happy that I choose the pouf!  It gives a high fashion flare and it doesn't get in the way of dancing.  You can wear it all night long.  We added russian veiling with the tulle to add some texture.  The front blusher was russian veiling.

Romantic Cake Toppers

Looking for a romantic and sophisticated cake topper?  I had so much trouble trying to find the right cake topper.  For my wedding, I didn't want the generic bride and groom on top of the cake.  At Rice Rafferty we recently made this cake topper for my wedding cake.  The topper is made from fabric petals, leaves, and russian veiling.  We used russian veiling for my veil too, so we kept a consistent theme throughout.  It added such a romantic, Victorian feel.  The perfect compliment to the ivory butter cream piping.  Everyone loved it and it added a more personal touch.

The Modern Beehive

 

Another favorite hairstyle of mine right now is the Modern Beehive.  It adds such a fun vintage flare to any look.  

Wedding Updos 2012

Here at Rice Rafferty Couture Accessories.  We're constantly designing new unconventional veils.  In addition to working on new designs we like to keep up to date with the hottest hairstyles that work best with our designs.  My favorite wedding updo right now is the low updo (chiffon) slightly off to the side.  It adds such a romantic touch and looks amazing with birdcage veils, blushers, or poufs in additional to more traditional veils.  The style flatters many face shapes too. 

Metaphors and Memories

 Between now and the end of June if you're in the Buffalo area come and see my mother's selected works from her collection of 10 Years.  It's a substantial body of work consisting of her coffee filter dress (she actually incorporated used coffee filters to make an entire garment), trashions - dresses made of upcycled plastic bags.  The art is from life experiences of being a daughter, a mother, dealing with losses (My Life Unraveling at 35), and her personal experience with breast cancer.  Some of her pieces were including in national and international shows brought together in one show for the first time.

Lets Get Crafty

I don't know about you, but I'm over winter and I'm really looking forward to Spring.  In the meantime I've been in super organization mode and feathering the nest.  I read about a great inexpensive way to organize earrings.  All you need is a picture frame and some wire.  In the picture above I used two rows of wire.  The most important thing with this project is to have fun with it.  You can even use spray adhesive and add a fun fabric on the frame for a pop of color.

I recently had the opportunity to visit my friend Kevin and his chickens.  I got some fresh eggs and I must say nothing compares to the quality of eggs from happy free range hens.  Did you notice the slight color variation of the shells?  Each egg is from a different type of hen.

We've been making new necklaces in the studio outside.  We're loving this weather!
